I'd never heard of a panadilla before, but the cook said it is patele in a turnover and how could I say no? Especially at $5. I wasn't interested in spending $10 plus on a plate. (I had other spots in Waipahu to visit.)
So nice and hot inside. The crust was so flaky and crisp and tender, and the patele inside was so fresh. It was pot pie in portable form. A little bit of a baked manapua sensibility. Grade: 100. I could've ate four of these.
Wat Get Kitchen is not a plate lunch place as most folks in Hawaii know it. They specialize in pateles, which explains why they're so good at it. The panadilla was a gateway snack. Next time, I have to try a plate.
