Danji: Succulent fried chicken w/ tartar sauce (video)


At Izakaya Danji, where the first anniversary means a 20% off all dinner-time items (until June 29), the hero of the menu remains the Chicken Nanban Miyazaki style chicken fritters dipped in vinaigrette with homemade tartar sauce. This is my second visit to Danji, looking for more menu dishes that might equal or surpass the chicken nanban. The stir-fry style Yuzukosho (yuzu citrus plus pepper) was sizzling — see video below — and tasty. But the Miyazaki wins.

The baked deep fried tofu with bonito flakes is borderline addictive. The seared Saba was a new experience, awesomely fatty and flavorful. But with the half-chicken sold out, the Miyazaki chicken is victorious. There’s much more on this menu, but I am content.
