Iyasume: Unagi/Avocado/Egg/Spam Musubi

At Musubi Cafe Iyasume, rise and shine comes with a long line. By 8 a.m., customers are waiting for their breakfast, and they have not been disappointed. The eatery opened in early May, replacing a crepe establishment.

Where Iyasume has the advantage is the versatility of the musubi, a 24/7 kind of food that local folks never tire of. I wasn't hungry, but seeing what they had to offer in the 50% off basket was tempting. I got the Unagi/Avocado/Egg/Spam musubi. Regular price, $4.55. It was borderline decadent and i loved every bite.

All the prices on the menu are reasonable, roughly $8 and below, with different size dishes. It's a palatable situation for shoppers who are weary of paying $10 and more for a basic meal out of the home. Musubi-oriented eateries have had mixed results. One place in Moiliili made fantastic musubi, but eventually carved that off the menu. But Mana Bu in Paawa continues to thrive.

I'll be back at Iyasume sooner rather than later. Snacks are a better fit for me anyway and, I'm guessing, for a lot of folks who want quality over quantity.

This is the fifth in a chain of locations. Four are within urban Honolulu and one is on Lanai.
