Kamehameha Park, Kohala

While parks across Oahu often have issues from broken plumbing to budget cuts that leave facilities closed or barely open, Kamehameha Park in Kapaau is a gem. From the baseball field to the softball field to the nine-hole golf course, to the fairly new skate park and the basketball gym, it is a well used, well serving place for the citizens of Kohala.

That's right. A golf course. I didn't go back there, though. I spent some time in the gym, where Kohala High School has practiced and played games while the school gym undergoes repairs. Hisaoka Gym recently reopened for open play after water issues were resolved. This place reminded me of the pristine parks of San Diego.
