Finally did something that I never did in the 1990s when I lived on the Big Island. I drove to the end of Akoni Pule Highway, where Pololu Valley meets the sea. I didn't hike down to the beach. I had to get going, but one day I'll venture down there. I've heard stories about the mule rides a half-century ago. About the valley and camping. For now, the sight and sounds of this place are etched, and they fit nicely in my soul.
