Never ceases to impress when I see the downtown Hilo Post Office. Might be the most elegant of all post offices statewide, largely because it also doubles as a federal building.
Think about the downtown post offices elsewhere. Honolulu has one across ‘Iolani Palace that is vintage, expansive, but not quite as visually appealing as Hilo. The post office in Kahului isn't quite like either.
Most of my favorite post offices are in rural areas. They have a rustic charm, clerks and postmasters who are usually busy, but friendly and willing to offer me help and advice. But Downtown Hilo is truly unique.
This began my Hamakua leg of the postal tour. Completely scheduled out to the minute. Nothing like an organized morning. It wouldn't stay organized and orderly for long.
