Wingstop: First Time Winner

I haven't been to enough chicken joints near or far, even though I have a clear taste for fried chicken, BBQ chicken, huli chicken, shoyu chicken, chicken soup, adobo chicken, chicken in every way. There's even a Raising Cane's a few blocks from home and I still haven't been there yet.

But on this night, it was an opportune time for Wingstop on Dillingham Blvd. I was hungry, and Wingstop is open until midnight, so I met up with old pal @Fatlark, who highly recommended this place. The place was half-packed on a Wednesday night.

I got the 10-piece mix of Original Hot and Lemon Pepper wings. Fries as my side. Everything is seasoned awesomely. Might be the best fries I've had in awhile. That black pepper mixed seasoning on the fries is addicting. They also offer veggies as a side — cold carrots and celery — which are cut just right. I really liked the seasoned corn on the cob. That's a big winner.

The wings win. The Original Hot is fourth on the menu scale of heat, and it was tasty, a low-key heat that builds by your third or fourth wing. The Lemon Pepper was nice, not overpowering, but flavorful.

The ranch dressing wins. It sounds so simple, but the depth of this meal reaches my soul. I could eat this every day. I won't, though, since this ain't cheap, but the value is real. I get Wingstop now.

Below, the mango wings. I didn't taste this one but it looks great.

The decor, tables, all of it reminded me a bit of Subway with the retro look. But this is definitely a place about planes and trains, WWII era. Pretty cool. Service was excellent. They gave me a 10% discount for being a first timer. The food is worth regular price, for sure, but it's nice to be treated like a valued customer. And free refills with the self-service drink dispenser. Yep, I'll be back.
