Adds a 1988 article (see at bottom) about former Pauuilo Post Office employee Barbara Okita, who later became postmaster at Hilo. Mahalo, Jerry Campany, a.k.a. Mad Librarian.
Next to the Paauilo Post Office is a vacant space, something that maybe was a general store back in the day. It's been empty for years now. Doesn't seem like anything new is going up soon, either. Paauilo is another historic town with roots in the sugar industry. Unlike most of the post offices, though, this one is on the main road, and that means it's away from some of the markers of small towns. Gyms. Schools. Stores. There's one store across the highway, but it's so busy there, the pedestrian bridge is a necessity.
