First town, first post office on the Hamakua leg out of Hilo. In and out, quick service by a busy postmaster (or clerk).
The blue car in the parking lot was stunning. Had to snap a pic.
Old Mamalahoa Highway. Same deal out Kona side. The old Mamalahoa weaved through the hills on pretty steep slopes for Hawaii. The newer highway, of course, we take for granted. Making and grading terrain, creating relatively straight-line routes. Go back and watch those old films of the railroad trains and tracks on those 300-foot high stilts. Just insane and incredible.
I was in and out of Papaikou in a few minutes. When I think of Papaikou, I recall the Senior Softball League standings and scores from the years I worked in Kona. Papaikou always had a good record in the 1990s.
