Regal Dole Cannery
This is a film production with a Chinese company, from what I read, and the high-def tech does show up in a strangely distracting way. It is almost too fine, and that was weird as Will Smith strolled near a bay, making normal (we think) conversation. Most of this film didn't require that kind of high tech. In fact, it felt more like pedestrian material that will be good filler on HBO next year. I am kind of disappointed with Smith, who has always stretched limits with his blend of humor and action.
This feels like a safe first step into a cooperative, joint effort with a Chinese company and, hence, the China market. Too safe for me. The emotional range of Smith's character just didn't work enough to offset a largely predictable plot.
