I've been at the Hawaiian Humane Society a couple of times recently. They have an overload of kittens, just giving them away. They also have Link, a 5-year-old who is so mellow, almost shy. The first time, he stayed in his cage and kept to himself while other cats were mingling with humans. The second time, eight days later, I think he still recognized my voice and came down to walk around. He was friendly and let me pet him. He gravitated to a little kid and her family, so I'm thinking he was a family cat when he was a baby. How he ended up here, who knows. I can't adopt a cat. My place is so cramped and I'm often gone for entire days and nights. A cat like Link deserves a home with kids. He's calming and chill.
