Sekiya's: Shoyu Chicken, Fried Rice for breakfast (video)

Sekiya's Restaurant & Delicatessen is an institution in these parts. The constant umami aroma would waft across the street onto Kaimuki High School's campus and truly devastate hungry students back in the day. One of the advantages of Sekiya's is that it opens early for breakfast. While eateries at next-door Market City don't open until 10 or 10:30 a.m., Sekiya's is already popping with a full complement of goodies.

The Shoyu Chicken is perfectly made, juicy and just a bit crispy. The Fried Rice has a definite garlic essence. Win. And the Gobo has the right balance of fiber and (I think) sesame-oil absorption. This is a breakfast that fuels the body and soul for the rest of the day.
