Within a 20-minute walk there are several bridges crossing Manoa-Palolo Stream: Date Street, Kapiolani Blvd., Old Waialae Road, Dole Street. These pics are at Date Street, where I crossed countless times on the walk to Kaimuki High School and back home in the early 1980s.
W.P.A. Is the Works Progress Administration established in 1935 by executive order. It was a byproduct of the intensive program kickstarted by the president as the country rebounded from the Great Depression. I never noticed the imprints on the bridge — 1937, WPA — as a kid. Might explain why there was a little more detail on this bridge than the other three, which were built more than a decade later.
This also one of these jointed areas that is at the edge of multiple neighborhoods: Moiliili and Kapahulu.
