The Best of Enemies: Pushing all the right buttons

Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell play this out with complete musicianship. The crescendo builds with ebbs of power, wave after wave. This would have been better served as a series, but with two hours to work with, the plot boils down to the “chaurette” executed by the neutral middleman portrayed by Babou Ceesay.

Based on a true story, and whatever liberties taken by director Robin Bissell, this works. Maybe it takes an optimist to truly enjoy this tale, but in a world — an America — divided beyond any form of sensibility, this film does a service. Worth seeing again.
