Gentefied, season 1: Hungry for more

Multi-generational. Relationships of couples fragmented, couples tightly knit. A patriarch with the alpha gene who still has the tender affection of his family despite losing the family matriarch, Delfina — their taco shop, Mama Fina's — is named after her.

There are layers upon layers in this series, and though Episode 1 was slow, chewy and a bit corny, Episode 2 perks up with a grand pace and scale. Multiple directors worked through these 10 episodes, and the mastery really took hold by E2.

No spoilers here. Just sit back and enjoy. Gentrification, a.k.a. gentefied in this show’s lingo, means fighting the system for this family, the Morales familia. It's not common for any series to balance the scales of personalities and passion of each character. For the first time in awhile, I think I'm going to rewatch a series I just binged in two days.

Another note: the back and forth of Spanish and English in the midst of conversations is intriguing. Make sure your subtitles are on, unless you are fluent.

Man, just watching the cast make tacos, including the tricked-out masala and curry versions, just about killed me. Tacos deserve a spot on the cast list in this show.

Gentefied has yet to be renewed for a second season by Netflix. COME ON, MAAAN!!
