Faries’ Essay, 1967: Kamuela as Post Office only

In this essay/letter to the Hawai’i Tribune-Herald in 1967, Mr. Faries lays out the case for changing the name of Kamuela Post Office to Waimea Post Office.

Even (Richard) Smart, the owner of Parker Ranch, refers to Waimea as the village and Kamuela as the post office. Faries makes a compelling case.

When I lived on the Big Island during the ‘90s, most folks referred to the town as Waimea. Quite a few still referred to it as Kamuela. Same same. One thing everyone agrees on is that this is a beautiful place. Unless you hate fog.
