This effort is good and hearty. It just doesn't come together as well as it should have. It's my own fault, probably, for seeing so many Korean films in the past year. First Love is a Japanese creation, and it tries its best to tap into a Pulp Fiction vibe. But I couldn't help thinking during the film that it would have been sharper, more effective, more soulful in the hands of a Korean director.
Still, this is entertaining. Just not great.
