The Current War (Director's Cut): More questions than answers

No complaints here. I missed this the first time around in July/August. So, this director's cut version was appealing. Shannon. Cumberbach.

From the opening scene, I knew this was not what I had hoped for. The music was very 2009 PBS/Sherlock Holmes-ish, not the traditional version, but the one where Holmes is a modern, borderline psychotic investigator. Naturally, the background music for that, and in this film, is very modern, synthetic. And in this version, it sort of matches, sort of doesn't. I suppose popular music of 1880 wouldn't fit the crazy pace of this film.

It moves quickly, which is understandable given all the information, the presence of alphas like Edison, Westinghouse and the presence of Tesla. Any show involving Tesla will disappoint to some extent because of all the blanks. The mystery. Why didn't he work faster? What... just too many questions to be answered in a film that really isn't about him, but can't exist without him.

This movie and it's amazing cast would have been incredible as a 10-part Showtime series. Yeah, that's really what would've fit properly. I doubt that these actors wanted to invest that kind of time and commitment, so everything was shoveled neatly into this box. By the final scenes, I was already missing these characters, these portrayals, didn't matter how accurate or false they were. I wanted more. That's not a common result in films today.
